UNLIKE MOST BOOKS ABOUT EVOLUTION....
The Human Being is not a
scientific foray into the past, nor a scholarly rendition of
academic research. It is the narrative of a personal journey that
began during the Author’s experience as a Beach Master in three
invasion landings at Casablanca, Salerno and Cavaliere during World
War II. It culminated in the crash of a Mohawk Airline on July 3,
1963 in Rochester, New York in which he experienced an epiphany of
the separation of his soul from his body and realized the ultimate
peace of the bliss of the soul set free.
In-between the World War II landings and the airline crash, the
Author was recruited by The Chase Bank to open their branch in
Shanghai, where he had a front row seat during the revolution in
China. Upon his return, he entered the arena of high finance on Wall
Street, where he became a Principal and founded an oil exploration
company which made its way to the American Stock Exchange.
The fusion of these diverse experiences resulted in a profound
examination of self and he began to question the materialistic
nature of life and the “smart animal” symbol of the Darwinian
culture that prevailed. A first step of publishing philosophical
essays was followed by his first book – BECOMING, Coming Into
Being – in 1979. Preparations for his second book –
THE HUMAN BEING – began soon after with the First Annual
Conference on the Destination of Human Beings in 1980. The twenty
years that followed document his effort to create an awareness of a
philosophy to help people understand themselves – that becoming a
Human Being is a state of mind and a state of mind is a determining
force. Because we become as we think, even a slight change in the
way we think can lead to a big change in a later outcome.
It was the immediate aftermath of 9/11 that produced the climate for
the publication of THE HUMAN BEING. Suddenly, the word became a
symbol, a personal identification. On TV it was noble to exclaim:
“I’m an American, I’m a New Yorker, I’m a Human Being!” The new
symbol was verbal, not yet set in type. When spoken, it was upper
case Human Being, but remained lower case in the press – human
being.
It was time to publish, time to educate the press and to amplify the
dictionary citations which had no listing for Human Beings. The
HUMAN BEING FOUNDATION was established and the campaign was on.
Buttons, pins and t-shirts proclaimed: ‘I’M A HUMAN BEING!” The
personal narrative of an octogenarian seeking to correct an
imbalance of understanding of the life process by offering an
alternative to the Darwinian DESCENT OF MAN began in
earnest....the alternative of HUMAN BEING, a proper noun for us.
