Ruminations Two…….
TO WANDER-ABOUT..…..WITH-OUT..….
….URGENT-DESTINATION
With June in sight, it is the season of Graduation and the
generational cycle of life, of stepping out, of planning ahead, of
challenge, of discovering our mettle, and of taking our place in the
world.
Our goal may be set by graduation from high school, from college, or
from a military academy. Graduation might be thought of as the
beginning of a new life, the threshold of a new age.
Graduation as the next stage of a new age is the threshold we are
now experiencing with the advent of our entrance into exploring the
cosmic life of the planets. Astrobiology has opened a new science in
this stage of emergent complexity of mankind….beyond the moon.
Travel in space is a beginning, but will then become a mere artifact
of the past when the next “jump” takes mankind beyond our physical
stage of the digits into the ethereal stage of the senses, and life
will have completed its generational cycle of life-on-earth.

ETHEREAL AGE OF THE SENSES
THE BEFORE
OF
THE BEFORE
OF
AFTERLIFE
Before Life….all was matter. All life was an
inert form, lacking the power to move around, very slow to act,
deficient in active properties, lacking a usual or anticipated
chemical or biological action.
Before Life….time was not measurable in terms of our time.
Millions of light years had no calendar, but it was not endless. All
was matter, and matter does not change by itself. It takes more than
time to change matter.
After Life….is a relatively new concept. It was not so long
ago that “afterlife” first became a defined word in the English
language—1503. More recently, Webster’s defined afterlife as “an
existence after death, a later period in one’s life” and Roget’s had
it “world to come, the next world, the great beyond.” It was
Longfellow who preceded them both (in 1847) with “The great world of
light that lies behind all human destinies.”
But first, there was matter to change before the before of
afterlife, and it took more than time to change matter. It was in
400 B.C. that Solon of Athens who started it with the injunction
“Know Thyself.” From Solon to Socrates to Aristotle to Hebrew
thought, the process gathered force. By the end of the first
millennium, sufficient numbers of people had become actively manned
to tip the scale, and the power of thought became a dominating force
in society. The Greeks had the word for this dissolving of matter:
Entheos; God within. Enthusiasm was the word that governed
eternity, and all matter than mattered.
The radiant force within, as the source of life which seeks
responsive radiance in matter in all its forms and gradually
nurtures responsive radiance into the earliest stages of physical
flesh and of life on earth, was underway.
THE GENERATIONAL STAGES
The generational stages of life-forms created the
stepping stones that we know, and which are visible for all to see
today.
The stages of life-forms are:
From water -- THE FIN
From land -- THE FOOT
From sky – THE WING
From food – THE THUMB
These four stages of life were primarily physical.
Then came the head, with its two-sided brain, and THE MIND emerged
from matter.
The stages of life did change when Mind was born – 400 B.C. Through
a simple process of connecting the two-sided brain with a bridge
between the right side and the left side, mankind attained the
ability to reason, to make decisions, and to receive intelligence
from the universe. For the first time, mankind became “manned” and
took on the responsibilities for a new stage of life in which he
became a part of the process itself. All the preceding stages of
life had been a natural process identifiable in a physical and
natural way – except for THE MIND. Here, the “jump” came from
within.
GRADUATION AS DESTINY
Graduation: the next stage of life’s afterlife.
Graduation as destiny has been revealed to great minds over the
centuries, but it was not thought of as a natural progression until
recent times when individual cases of near-death experiences were
recorded by the medical profession.
From my own experience, let me share having been out-of-body during
the crash of an airliner. It was on July 3, 1963 as I returned from
a business meeting in Rochester, NY and boarded the Mohawk Airliner
that I first caught the glimpse of a tornado coming in off Lake
Erie. By the time I was aboard the plane, hail was falling with
thunder and lightening, combining to make unreal the growing
sensation of a calamity about to happen. Once seated, there was an
eerie calmness as the plane powered up, gained speed, and took off
into the gale. As it did, the cabin door was flung open and we could
see the crew wresting with the controls as the wings dipped and
turned, and finally the left wing caught the ground, and we
cartwheeled into the mud-soaked field as the plane exploded in
flames.
The vision of the burning wreck was seen by me
for the first time from afar. I was “Nathan” with all my senses,
weightless and removed form all that was happening below me.
There was a beautiful azure blue environment of buoyancy which
was so peaceful and right that no words of mine have ever been
able to describe it fully. Then I was back with myself within
the burning circle of debris and explosions, and then out again,
several times. This was repeated many times as Nathan moved
higher away from the scene below. At one point, the pull from
below became persistent, and I said aloud to myself – “Okay,
move your legs…if you legs move and you can walk, I will stay
with you. Otherwise, I am not coming back again.” I had
addressed myself as “you” and looked at my situation with
detachment. Upon making the ultimatum, I “locked-in” unbuckled
and stood up, and soon after was working with others to help
clear the burning area as rescue vehicles began to arrive.
Through this brief experience of afterlife, I learned that only
the body dies, and you as a living soul graduates. Graduation as
destination is the next stage of life’s afterlife when we return to
the universe from which we came.
THE NEW MILLENIUM
In the new millennium of cosmic life we sense the
beginning of a new emergence in the evolution of life before
afterlife. Astrobiology is now playing a part in the new science
beyond the moon in this stage of mankind’s emergent complexity. What
will it contain? What will we be like? What new stage of universal
intelligence will then prevail? We do know that a new age is
forming. We have seen the stage set for it. The computer age has
already prepared for it. The new age of emergent evolution is beyond
mind over matter…it is mind over mind…with direct access to the
intelligence of the universe.

Mankind is experiencing an acceleration of
complexity during this sensorium development of the brain towards
assimilation with the universal forces that are now at hand. Travel
in space was a beginning, but will soon become a mere artifact of
the past when this next jump takes place, beyond the physical stage
of the digits into the ethereal stage of the senses, and life will
have completed its generational cycle of life-on-earth.

BEFORE THE BEFORE THE BEFORE,
ALL WAS MATTER
MATTER….is a physical substance, the substance of
which a physical object is composed. Material substance which
occupies space and has weight that constitutes the observed
universe, and that, together with energy, forms the basis of
objective phenomena. The element of the universe that undergoes
formation and alternation; the formless substratum of all things
which exist potentially and upon which form acts to produce
realities is …MATTER.
